We recommend annual preventive care exams for adult dogs and cats between one and seven years old. Puppies, kittens, and senior pets should have more frequent examinations. At each check-up, we record your pet's weight and temperature, ask about eating habits and exercise, and discuss parasite control. Our veterinarians also check for specific health issues, such as diabetes and signs of cancer. You also have the chance to get help with any behavioral concerns.
Although the age at which dogs and cats are considered a senior can vary by breed, we like to start seeing pets for bi-annual exams around age seven. Like people, older pets have an increased risk of kidney disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, liver disease, senility, and general weakness. Staying on top of these issues helps improve the quality of life for your pet in the senior years. Mobility challenges and behavior changes are also more common with older pets.
Your pet's oral health is a good indicator of his or her overall well-being. We check the teeth and gums at every wellness exam to look for signs of infection or other dental problems. Additionally, you can schedule an appointment for a dental cleaning under general anesthesia. Our staff works with clients to teach them proper toothbrushing techniques for an at-home routine.
Spaying your female pet and neutering your male pet helps to control pet overpopulation. Unfortunately, millions of pets are euthanized every year because there are not enough homes for all of them. Additional benefits of sterilization include a longer lifespan, reduced risk of mammary gland and testicular cancer, no heat cycles or roaming behavior, and less aggressive behavior by both males and females.
Ark Animal Hospital has served Jefferson Parish and the surrounding New Orleans area with great pride, merging high quality medicine with old-fashioned concern.
I have used ARK for over 7 years and have loved them. This is a no frills, FULL of love office. Every vet there is wonderfully attentive and a pleasure to deal with. The administrative staff is super sweet, attentive and they have wonderful communication. (They always call to ask before adding a treatment or medication, which I appreciate)
I am so impressed by how much these Veterinarians give back to the local pet community by donating their time WEEKLY to help with animal control.
These Doctors are without a doubt the most caring compassionate group of veterinarians I have ever encountered. I've seen all three Doctors and they all go above and beyond for my dogs. I get a bit paranoid about my dogs health and they always take all of my concerns seriously and take the time to answer every question I have. The rest of the staff are also just as amazing. the receptionist are always patient and kind and remeber my dogs names. This office is also very reasonably priced and have great availability for appointments.
Ark Animal Hospital has been our primary vet for about 15 years now. They always give the very best care to our precious cats, and were very compassionate and loving when one of our cats became too sick and had to be "put down". They sent out a sympathy card signed by each and every staff member and all these years later, we still have that card.
You will not find a more qualified staff, more compassionate staff or affordable pet care.. They are truly amazing-- after 15 years and 4 cats, we will continue to only trust them with our pet medical care needs.
